Position Summary 

The Staff Accountant works directly with the Assistant Controller to manage the monthly close process, perform in-depth financial analysis, gather and present data to support the annual external audit, and complete a broad range of complex day-to-day accounting functions.   


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsibilities include the preparation of monthly journal entries and reconciliations, completion of financial statements, calculation and submission of state sales and use tax returns, and producing various reports related to sales, fixed assets and liabilities
  • Importance is placed on completing responsibilities in an accurate and timely manner to ensure all deliverables comply with regulatory guidance and professional accounting standards
  • Perform complex accounting analysis or financial performance based projects
  • Identify and resolve banking issues, such as cleared check differences, bank fee anomalies, targeted balance calculations and improving online services
  • Complete monthly general ledger and account reconciliations
  • Compute and submit Sales & Use taxes based on multiple state and city regulations
  • Perform in-depth tracking, analysis and reporting related to fixed assets
  • Document, track, analyze and report on over 60 various store leases
  • Analyze and report financial results for the company, including the preparation of monthly management reports, accompanying schedules and narratives
  • Ensure conformance with, and abide by, all regulatory guidance and internal policies & procedures, document policies, procedures and workflow for areas of responsibility



  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting
  • 3-5 years of experience in a Senior or Staff Accountant position, or other similar position
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to use accounting judgement in the recording of financial transactions
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel)
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven environment
  • Work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with high complexity
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Work with minimal up-front guidance and take ownership of his / her work product
  • Commercial real estate, insurance and retail related experience is a plus
  • Experience with NetSuite Accounting Software or other similar systems is a plus
